How Ryan O'Reilly remained perfect in Nashville Predators win over New Jersey Devils

In the NHL, it's tough to remain perfect for long − but Ryan O'Reilly did exactly that on Sunday night at the Prudential Center.

With the Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils locked in a 2-2 tie, the game headed to overtime, and then eventually a shootout.

Not only did the Predators enter the shootout with a flawless record (2-0), but every shooter for Nashville this season has scored on their attempt. That includes Ryan O'Reilly, who scored on Dec. 5 against Chicago and on Dec. 30 against Washington.

Now you can make it three goals in three attempts for O'Reilly.

Coming down the right side of the ice, O'Reilly put the brakes on in front of goalie Jake Allen, freezing him for long enough to find a crease over his left pad. He put the puck in the net, giving the Predators a lead in the shootout.

Predators goalie Juuse Saros made all three saves on the Devils, clinching a 3-2 win for Nashville.

The win inches Nashville within one point of solidifying a playoff spot. Entering Sunday night, the Predators needed a win over the Devils, combined with a Blues loss to the Ducks in any fashion.

The Predators did their part, but the Blues held on to win 6-5 over the Ducks.

Nashville's next chance to clinch will come Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Bridgestone Arena against Winnipeg. If the Predators gain one point against the Jets, they clinch a playoff spot.
