Rutgers football's offense started off slow but the Scarlet Knights pulled away in the second half to beat Howard 44-7 Thursday night at SHI Stadium in its season opener.
Freshman running back Antwan Raymond capped the scoring with an 11-yard run as the final seconds expired.

Kaliakmanis hits running back Sam Brown for a 34-yard touchdown pass to put Rutgers up 31-7 with 2:33 to go in the third quarter.

Kyle Monangai scores to expand Rutgers' lead
Monangai runs it in from seven yards out and it's 24-7 Rutgers with 8:06 to go in the third quarter.
With that run, Monangai hit the 165-yard mark, tying a single-game career high.
Howard slices into Rutgers' lead
The Bison get on the board with 40 seconds to go in the first half with Eden James scoring on a two-yard run.
It's 14-7 Rutgers.
Rutgers goes up 14-0 in the second quarter
Athan Kaliakmanis hits Dymere Miller for a two-yard touchdown pass, capping a seven-play, 55-yard drive that spanned 3:55.
It was Miller's first touchdown with the Scarlet Knights after he joined the program in the offseason as a transfer from Monmouth, where he broke multiple program records.
Kyle Monangai had a big 39-yard run to start the drive and get the ball to the Howard 16.
Rutgers scores first touchdown of the season
Eric Rogers returned an interception 52 yards to put the Scarlet Knights up 7-0 at the 8:50 mark of the first quarter.
