REPORT: Steelers await one final piece in trade deal for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk
Nearly one month after wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk requested to be traded from the San Francisco 49ers, the saga drags on.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted an "update" that's not really an update. Nothing new to see here.
The song remains the same: The Pittsburgh Steelers have put forth a strong offer for the sought-after receiver, as well as a strong contract once the trade is finalized. Pittsburgh is still playing the waiting game with the ball squarely in the Niners' court.
The 49ers re-entered contract negotiations with Aiyuk over the weekend, but as Rapoport said, he has not accepted their offer.
From the start, it was clear Aiyuk no longer wanted to be a Niner. Months ago, Aiyuk stated it was between the Commanders and Steelers if he didn't remain in San Francisco. Washington, along with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, dropped out of the race weeks ago with Pittsburgh as the last team standing should he be traded.
Update on Brandon Aiyuk:
-- The Steelers and #49ers have a deal on a potential trade and PIT is in a good place on an Aiyuk contract, sources say. If SF gives the final sign-off, it's done.
-- SF has an offer out to Aiyuk on a long-term deal for him to stay. He hasn't accepted. pic.twitter.com/ZepVTfv4Nj— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 13, 2024
