The Seattle Seahawks are holding an open competition at the center position during training camp practices. Both Nick Harris and Olu Oluwatimi are jockeying for the starting gig. The Seahawks are guaranteed to have a new starter at the position in 2024 after Evan Brown held the post last season.

According to a recent report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, a third player could join the competition. Free agent center Connor Williams visited the Seahawks in July. Fowler reports that the Seahawks have interest in signing him, though he also mentions that nothing appears imminent.

Williams is still available on the market largely because he suffered a season-ending ACL injury with the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 last season. Williams isn't yet fully recovered. If signed, he projects as a potential upgrade over both Harris and Oluwatimi.

Williams was enjoying an outstanding 2023 campaign before suffering the knee injury. Pro Football Focus assigned the former Texas Longhorn an elite 90.5 run-blocking grade. Williams was PFF's second-highest graded center in that department trailing just the Detroit Lions' Frank Ragnow. He also scored a stellar 71.7 in pass protection.

The Seahawks play their first preseason game this Saturday (August 10th) against the Los Angeles Chargers. Both Oluwatimi and Harris should receive opportunities to play with the first-team offense throughout the three exhibition games. If general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald still feel like the offense requires an upgrade at the center position, then signing Williams would be a wise investment.
