Report: Patriots center David Andrews hospitalized with blood clots in lungs
New England Patriots starting center David Andrews was hospitalized Monday with blood clots in his lungs, The Athletic reports.
The Boston Globe reports that he has since been released from the hospital.
The ramifications for Andrews’ long-term health are unclear, but he could miss the entire season, according to the report.
Andrews won the starting job during his 2015 rookie season and has been New England’s starting center since, a period that includes three Super Bowl appearances and two victories.
He was named a team captain in 2017.
Tough blow for Patriots
Aside from the obvious concern over Andrews’ health, his setback presents a challenge for the Patriots considering his rapport with quarterback Tom Brady on the field and the season looming.
Backup lineman Ted Karras will assume starting center duties in Andrews’ absence, according to the report. Karras is entering his fourth season as a backup and spot starter on the interior line for the Patriots.
