Report: Chargers signing Patriots CB J.C. Jackson in another defensive move

The Los Angeles Chargers are bolstering their defense yet again.

Just days after landing Khalil Mack in a trade, the Chargers agreed to a deal with former New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jackson is reportedly set to make $82.5 million over five years, $40 million of which is guaranteed.

Jackson just finished his fourth season in the league with the Patriots, where he had a career-high 58 total tackles and eight interceptions. Only Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs had more. Jackson has had 17 interceptions over the past two seasons, and was second in the NFL once again in 2020.

The Chargers traded a pair of draft picks to the Chicago Bears for Mack last week, which adds another new piece to their defense. Mack had 19 total tackles last season, but missed the second half of the year with a foot injury. The 31-year-old will get to team up with Chargers star Joey Bosa, which will undoubtedly help their defensive front.

Though Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City and Russell Wilson in Denver are sure to make the AFC West incredibly tough, the Chargers seem to have taken enough steps to counter the two quarterbacks — and anyone else that comes their way.
