What a 'rat trap' game means to Alabama football players: 'Everybody's coming for you'

After Alabama football's 41-34 win against Georgia, and ahead of the Crimson Tide's upcoming meeting with Vanderbilt, center Parker Brailsford said Alabama director of player development Josh Chapman threw Victor-branded rat traps down in front of the players and emphatically exclaimed "it's a trap game, y'all."

But Brailsford doesn't view the Crimson Tide's upcoming meeting with the Commodores as a "trap."

"I'd say Vanderbilt is a good team," Brailsford said. "We're going to get everybody's best, just like always. The standard is the standard. We're just going to play ball."

Alabama safety Malachi Moore said the "rat traps" are about more than just Vanderbilt. It's a mindset, he said, after the Crimson Tide's win against Georgia.

"Keeping everybody locked in and telling people we're not satisfied," Moore said. "We haven't done anything special this year that we didn't see ourselves already doing."

During the Nick Saban era, Alabama has won 62 of their 73 games the week after ranked wins.

Since 2007, Alabama has played in six games after wins against top-five opponents. The Crimson Tide has won all but one, losing to No. 14 Texas A&M on Nov. 10, 2012, after beating No. 5 LSU the week before.

Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson calls all the attention after the Georgia game "rat poison" — hence the rat traps scattered around the Crimson Tide football facilities.

"You just have to know everybody coming for you," Lawson said. "You're going to get everybody's (best) shot. ... You just got to make sure you're doing all the right things that got you to this point."

Alabama kicks off against Vanderbilt at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee on SEC Network.
