Quinn Ewers injury update: Texas football QB reportedly returns to practice

Texas football Week 1 starting quarterback Quinn Ewers has returned to practice and is taking reps from the first team, according to a report from Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson.

Ewers has been recovering from an oblique strain he suffered during the Longhorns' Week 4 win over the University of Texas at San Antonio, but an Orangebloods report says he'll be ready to go for the Red River Rivalry vs. Oklahoma on Oct. 12.

"No way he misses this game or the rest of the season. He wants to win the SEC and a Natty," Richardson was reportedly told.

GOLDEN: Texas is on a bye but Steve Sarkisian is giving his players homework

Former 2023 top recruit Arch Manning relieved Ewers vs. UTSA and has led the Longhorns to a pair of wins over University of Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State in Ewers' absence. Through two-and-a-half games he's thrown for 806 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Despite his performance, Sarkisian has been adamant that a healthy Ewers is the starter and that he has the ability to lead Texas to the ultimate goal.

"With some of the games that we have coming up down the road, (Ewers is) going to be in New York for the Heisman and whether he wins it or not, but he has the ability to do that, and I think he has ability to be a top-five NFL draft pick," Sarkisian said before Texas' game vs. ULM.

Even so, Sarkisian did not diminish the value of being able to get Manning in for some meaningful starts.

"When we get Quinn back, we're all going to be excited for that," Sarkisian said. "But we also know gosh, what a luxury that we do have, and what invaluable experience Arch got over these two-and-a-half games."
