Quinn Ewers injury: What Steve Sarkisian said of Texas football QB's outlook for Oklahoma

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers (3) leaves the field after the 35-13 win over Mississippi State at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024.

Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian said the Longhorns could "hopefully" get starting quarterback Quinn Ewers back for their rivalry game against Oklahoma on Oct. 12.

"We'll see," Sarkisian said after Texas beat Mississippi State 35-13. "Hopefully you get him close to, if not 100% healthy, and let him get ready to go."

Ewers has missed the last two weeks after he left Texas' Week 3 game against UTSA with an abdominal strain. He was listed as questionable coming into Saturday's SEC opener, but did not dress.

Arch Manning, Ewers' redshirt freshman backup, has deputized more than capably in his absence.

Against Mississippi State, Manning completed 26 of his 31 pass attempts for 324 yards and two touchdowns.

On the season, Manning has passed for 576 yards and two touchdowns, with the bulk of that production coming with Ewers on the sidelines.

"When we get Quinn back, we're all going to be excited for that," Sarkisian said. "But we also know gosh, what a luxury that we do have, and what invaluable experience Arch got over these two-and-a-half games."
