Projected 49ers Week 1 offensive depth chart vs. New York Jets
The San Francisco 49ers open their regular season with a Week 1 Monday Night Football matchup with the New York Jets.
After an offseason of holdouts, hold-ins and injuries, the 49ers appear to be mostly whole on offense as they gear up to begin the 2024 campaign. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was back in practice Tuesday after a hold-in that helped him earn a four-year, $120 million contract. Running back Christian McCaffrey was also in practice Tuesday after missing most of training camp with a calf strain. Left tackle Trent Williams was also at the team facility Tuesday to end his holdout with $48 million guaranteed as part of a restructured three-year contract.
That trio figures to make up a huge chunk of what has a chance to be the NFL's best offense. Here's what we think the depth chart looks like Week 1:
Quarterback
Brock PurdyJoshua DobbsBrandon Allen
We're going to guess it's Dobbs winning the No. 2 QB job. He's a more dynamic playmaker and his rapid growth in the offense provides some optimism he could thrive if he needs to step in for an extended period.
Running back
Christian McCaffreyJordan MasonIsaac GuerendoPatrick Taylor
Nothing crazy here. Guerendo is probably ahead of Taylor just because he was a fourth-round pick, but neither player did enough in camp to warrant a definite place as the third RB.
Fullback
Kyle Juszczyk
Easy work here. Tight end Jake Tonges is the likely backup if Juszczyk misses any time.
Wide receiver
Deebo SamuelBrandon AiyukJauan JenningsChris ConleyJacob CowingRonnie Bell
There's a clear-cut top three. After that it's probably matchup or situation-dependent. Conley has proven himself with the 49ers coaching staff and would likely warrant a regular nod as a fourth WR over the rookie Cowing or Bell.
Tight end
George KittleEric SaubertJake Tonges
This is also how the trio appears in the 49ers' unofficial depth chart. Saubert is the more veteran of the duo behind Kittle. If the team needs some pass-catching help though, Tonges appears to have the edge in that department.
Offensive tackle
LT Trent WilliamsRT Colton McKivitzJaylon MooreBrandon Parker
The only question here is whether Williams will be ready to play by the season opener. If not, it's Moore at LT.
Center
Jake BrendelNick Zakelj
Ben Bartch can also play center, but Zakelj got most of the work there while Bartch and Jon Feliciano were out during camp.
Guard
LG Aaron BanksRG Dominick PuniSpencer BurfordBen Bartch
Puni isn't in danger of losing the starting job according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Burford was a starter in his first two years in the league. The 49ers should feel great about him as an interior depth piece.
