Will Power flips off Penske teammate Josef Newgarden at end of IndyCar race

MADISON, Illinois -- Team Penske driver Will Power flipped off teammates Josef Newgarden following a crash near the end of the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 after a crash.

Power got out of his car and raised his middle finger at Newgarden.

Power was furious in his interview with NBC, irate and claiming that Newgarden stopped and started several times – an illegal move for the leader on a restart. On the radio, front-runner Colton Herta and his Andretti Global strategist Rob Edwards agreed, with the latter calling the restart procedure from the Team Penske driver "unbelievably bad" and Herta calling for a penalty.

'Unbelievably bad': Josef Newgarden's late-race restart OK per IndyCar. Drivers disagree.

"The leader, whoever was leading, wasn't where he was supposed to go between 3 and 4," Power said of Newgarden. "He waited, he went, he stopped, he went, he stopped. I knew that was going to happen. As soon as I checked up because he checked up, I knew I was going to get pounded."

While leading the race at World Wide Technology Raceway on a restart with 10 laps to go, Newgarden's delayed restart caused a chain reaction just a few cars back, leading fifth-place Alexander Rossi to run over the back of title-contender Will Power in a massive shunt that also collected Romain Grosjean. The crash brought out a late red flag, turning the sprint to the finish into an 8-lap shootout that eventually ended in Newgarden's fifth win at the short oval just outside St. Louis.

Newgarden was followed by Scott McLaughlin, Linus Lundqvist and Colton Herta.
