Will Power crashes out of Indy 500 on Lap 147
INDIANAPOLIS — Will Power’s quest to earn a second Indianapolis 500 victory ended in the Turn 1 SAFER Barrier.
Power was outside Christian Rasmussen on Lap 147 when the 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner lost control of the No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet. Power hit the SAFER barrier at the exit of Turn 1 with the left side of the car.
"It always changes on race day," Power said. "There's a lot of good cars out there. We struggled all day --- we just couldn't get the front to work."
The car stopped in the warmup lane at the entrance of Turn 2. Power got out of the car under his own power.
"I feel fine," Power said after being in the IMS medical center for nearly 30 minutes. "Big hit, but the headrest and the car --- it doesn't feel nice. But it's not like it used to be where you get knocked down, something like that."
