Poll: What Georgia football game are you most excited for?
Picking a Georgia football game that’s most attractive this year isn’t a cinch.
Sure, a showdown at new SEC member Texas looms large. So does an SEC championship rematch in Tuscaloosa against Alabama.
Starting the season against border rival Clemson is a spicy opener. Closing the regular season with a Friday Thanksgiving weekend game against in-state rival Georgia Tech brings added juice to a game that sometimes gets lost on the national stage.
The Bulldogs will play in five of the 12 biggest games on the 2024 schedule based on combined ratings in ESPN’s Football Power index.
The top two are games against Texas and Alabama and games against Ole Miss and Clemson are 9-10 while Tennessee’s game at Georgia is No. 12.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey noted Georgia’s three rugged road games at the SEC spring meetings in late May.
“You look at Georgia, they’re at Alabama, they’re at Texas, they’re at Ole Miss, I’d be hard pressed to name another team that’s going to face—I understand the predictions for next season—to play away games with that kind of quality,” Sankey said. “The Selection Committee—and we’ve talked about this a bit in the CFP management committee—has to cope with what means when you get down selecting the best teams, the seven nonconference champion teams to participate.”
