Pistons' Isaiah Stewart ejected for Flagrant 2 on Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo: 'Not a basketball play'
Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart was ejected from Wednesday night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks after being assessed a Flagrant 2 foul on Giannis Antetokounmpo with 3 minutes, 2 seconds remaining in the third quarter at Fiserv Forum.
Antetokounmpo was attempting to go up for a dunk when Stewart grabbed Antetokounmpo's jersey and spun him to the ground, sending him awkwardly down hard to the court.
After Stewart initially was called only for his second personal foul, the play was immediately reviewed and the foul upgraded to the Flagrant 2 for unnecessary and excessive contact.
When asked about the play after the game, Antetokounmpo paraphrased a quote from Mike Tyson in a documentary advancing the former heavyweight boxing champion's upcoming fight with Jake Paul.
"He said some guys are manufactured killers, he's a born killer," Antetokounmpo began. "I just feel the same way. I've been in that position many times in my life. I have two older brothers that, you know, push me on the floor, play, be tough on me, especially Thanasis. I've been so many times hit. So, it doesn't really faze me anymore. It doesn't really faze me. All I could think about was get up and try to make two free throws.
"At the same time, it's a dangerous play. That's not a basketball play. I think the ref did a great job of making the right call. I couldn't hear what it was, but I know that he got ejected. But at the end of the day when you play guys like (Jalen) Duren and Stewart, guys that are physical, tough, you gotta expect that. Coming to the game I knew it was going to be tough for me to get to my angles and make plays."

Crew chief Mitchell Ervin reiterated after the game in a pool report that "Stewart makes unnecessary and excessive contact with an aggressive pulldown of the jersey of (Giannis) Antetokounmpo with follow through creating significant impact and potential for injury to a vulnerable airborne player.
"Height in the air does not matter but the fact that he is in the air as a vulnerable airborne player does matter."
After he was ejected, Stewart waved and gestured to the Bucks crowd as he made his way to the Pistons locker room.
"I think it was over analyzed being the player who did it," Bucks forward Taurean Prince said of Stewart. "Guy's got whatever history behind what they do. Even he said he wasn't trying to do all that, but definitely was trying to hard foul him. Which I respect because I would do the same thing just to kind of send a message but obviously me being on the other side we didn't like it too much. So we just voiced our opinion. But for him, he said he didn't try to do it on purpose. So, to each his own though. The ref's made their decision and kept playing ball."
Antetokounmpo was ejected from a game against Detroit last season after earning two technical fouls, the second of which came after he was deemed to have been taunting Stewart after a dunk.
At the time of Stewart's ejection, Detroit was leading 79-71. In a matter of minutes, the Bucks were taking an 85-84 lead into the fourth quarter.
"We were starting a run and then that play took us to another level," Bucks head coach Doc Rivers said. "It almost told us OK, this is a war and we're gonna go get it. It's amazing how little things like that can change a game. And it also took a guy that was very valuable for them off the floor. So that was important as well."
