On Patriot Day, Rockets honor Houston’s first responders

On Wednesday, the Houston Rockets partnered with Toyota to host the 2024 version of their annual companywide Day of Service. This year, the event featured multiple activations paying tribute to military members and first responders in remembrance of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

In a surprise morning visit, general manager Rafael Stone, head coach Ime Udoka, and president of business operations Gretchen Sheirr joined Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore, and Reed Sheppard for a tour of the Houston Emergency Operations Center. Staff at the facility were treated to breakfast provided by Whataburger along with Rockets shirts and ticket vouchers.

Following that visit, team employees then visited more than 100 fire and police stations around the Houston area. While there, they thanked first responders for their service while distributing more game tickets and team gear.

Additionally, the Rockets were represented at the City of Houston’s official 9/11 Day of Remembrance event in front of City Hall, as hosted by Mayor John Whitmire. A number of Rockets legends, including Hall of Famers Elvin Hayes and Calvin Murphy, were on hand to lend support. The team also had an on-site tent to hand out apparel and commemorative military coins to veterans in attendance.

Photos and videos of many of Wednesday’s events are available for viewing below. Complete interviews are available via Jackson Gatlin and his Locked on Rockets YouTube channel.
