OU softball adds Campbell pitcher Isabella Smith via transfer portal

NORMAN — All the dominoes continue to fall in place for OU softball.

The Sooners added much-needed pitching depth Wednesday as former Campbell right-hander Isabella Smith announced via Instagram she will transfer to OU.

Smith is head coach Patty Gasso’s fourth transfer portal commit in five days, leaving one more roster spot to fill. Smith joins North Carolina catcher Isabela Emerling, Utah outfielder Abby Dayton and BYU infielder Ailana Agbayani as Sooner portal commits.

Gasso will seemingly use the final spot to land an ace pitcher after Kelly Maxwell’s eligibility expired.

Smith went 26-7 with a 1.56 ERA in 206 innings for the Fighting Camels in 2024. OU returns Kierston Deal who held a 14-1 record with a 1.97 ERA in 78 ⅓ innings last season.

During her three seasons at Campbell, Smith was 70-28 with a 2.37 ERA and 638 strikeouts and 161 walks in 593 ⅓ innings. Prior to her time at Campbell, Smith spent her first collegiate season at James Madison.
