New Orleans Saints roster cuts tracker: Instant analysis on every move
The New Orleans Saints are tackling the same tough task as ever other NFL team by cutting their roster down by Tuesday's deadline at 3 p.m. CT. While they kept 91 players on the team through the preseason and training camp, only 53 of them can remain on the roster beyond that cutoff date. Some will return to the practiice squad, but for many of these guys it's their last chance. This is a tough 48 hours for everyone.
Moves will be formally processed on Tuesday but we'll be keeping up with everything as it's reported. Check this space often for instant analysis on every move as the 53-man roster takes shape:
Lou Hedley waived
Hedley's struggles with hang time and distance continued this summer, and for now it looks like the Saints are going with rookie punter Matthew Hayballl instead. Read more here.
S Roderic Teamer waived
Teamer competed for snaps on special teams and as a backup at safety but wasn't able to elbow his way into the starting lineup. He's a candidate to return to the practice squad. Read more here.
LB Mike Rose released
Rose was a long-shot as a late addition to the training camp roster. He had some nice moments in the preseason but the team is too deep at linebacker to keep everyone. Read more here.
LB Isaiah Stalbird waived
The rookie from South Dakota State is a good candidate to return to the practice squad. He moves really well but suffered an ankle injury at a bad time this summer. Read more here.
RB James Robinson
Robinson is a good bet to re-sign with the practice squad if he doesn't get a better opportunity elsewhere. He looks like a good fit in the offense but injuries and wear and tear have slowed him down. Read more here.
RB Jacob Kibodi waived
Kibodi showed out in the final preseason game and scored two touchdown runs, but it wasn't enough to win a roster spot. We'll see if he returns to the practice squad. It's tough to keep so many running backs when so few get touches on Sundays. Read more here.
S Ugo Amadi released
Amadi made the team last year but he's had a rough summer, giving up too many catches and missing too many tackles. He's continued to be the preferred backup for Alontae Taylor in the slot but we'll see if he returns. Read more here.
