The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will include one of the biggest tournaments in women's soccer, with 12 teams aiming to bring home gold in an event that will be played at stadiums spread across France.

While the Summer Olympics have featured men's soccer dating all the way back to 1900, there wasn't a women's soccer tournament until the 1996 Atlanta Games. Since then, it only trails the World Cup in terms of prestige in the women's game.

The U.S. women's national team will be aiming to use this Olympiad to prove it's back on top after disappointing in the 2020 Tokyo Games and at last year's World Cup. Canada will hope to repeat a surprise gold-medal run from the previous Olympics, while World Cup champions Spain loom as the tournament favorite.
