Oklahoma softball wins fourth straight championship: Social media reactions to Sooner dynasty

Oklahoma softball has done it.

The No. 2 national seed Sooners won an unprecedented fourth consecutive national championship on Thursday, defeating No. 1 Texas 8-4 in Game 2 of the Women's College World Series championship final. They previously had beaten the Longhorns 8-3 in Game 1 to set up Thursday's eventual title-clinching game.

The championship marks coach Patty Gasso's eighth, which ties her for the college softball record with former Arizona coach Mike Candrea. Oklahoma has now won six of the last eight national championships, dating back to its back-to-back championships in 2016-17.

The Longhorns led 3-2 after the top of the fourth inning until Oklahoma's Cydney Sanders roped a bases-clearing double to right field to give the Sooners a 5-3 lead, which it never relinquished. Texas made things interesting with a run in the sixth, but Oklahoma retaliated with three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to all but clinch the win.

OU's senior class now leaves without ever ending the season on a loss.
