OKC Thunder forward Kenrich Williams undergoes knee surgery, will miss preseason

Veteran Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kenrich Williams underwent a successful arthroscopic debridement procedure in his right knee Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, the team announced. Thunder medical personnel were on hand.

The 29-year-old is set to be reevaluated after the preseason, which begins on Oct. 7 and concludes on Oct. 17.

Williams, who was sidelined entering last season with a back injury, has experienced his share of knee issues. In 2022, he was sidelined with a couple of knee injuries, and a procedure ahead of what was meant to be his junior season at TCU left him sidelined after playing through knee pains the prior season.

It’s an untimely procedure for Williams, who’ll miss OKC’s training camp and preseason leading into a highly anticipated season. The 6-foot-6 forward played notable minutes as a small-ball center a couple seasons ago. When the stakes rose a season ago for the youngest No. 1 seed in league history, Williams’ minutes dwindled. During the regular season, he averaged 4.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in a career-low 14.9 minutes.

Upon Williams return, he’ll hope to return to game shape while trying to fit into a Thunder frontcourt that’s more crowded than it was a year ago.
