OKC Thunder schedule for 2024-25 NBA season begins at Denver Nuggets: See every game, date

Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2) is surrounded by teammates as he is interviewed by TNT's Allie LaForce after a 124-92 win against the Pelicans in Game 2 of the first round of the NBA playoffs on April 24 at Paycom Center.

Schedules for all 30 NBA teams were released Thursday afternoon, and the Thunder’s chase to top 57 wins begins with an adequate test.

In its season opener, Oklahoma City will travel to Denver for an Oct. 24 matchup on TNT between the Western Conference’s top-two seeds a year ago — a stark difference in significance from last year’s opener, when OKC opened its season in Chicago.

That’s followed by another early season road meeting with Chicago, this time with an added dynamic: The first reunion with now-former Thunder guard Josh Giddey.

For its home opener on Oct. 27, the Thunder is set to host Trae Young’s Atlanta Hawks, which will feature No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher.

The Thunder’s first rematch with the Dallas Mavericks, who eliminated OKC from the West semifinals in May, comes on Nov. 17 at Paycom Center.

More: Why Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC Thunder are ready to handle pressure in 2024-25 season

OKC’s first meeting with the Minnesota Timberwolves, now a full-blown rival and another Western Conference contender, comes on New Year’s Eve. That season series is relatively cramped; the remaining three games all come in an 11-day span from Feb. 13 to Feb. 24, with a back-to-back beginning in Minnesota and ending in OKC.

OKC’s NBA Cup slate begins on Nov. 15 in a matchup with the Phoenix Suns, with nationally televised road games against the Spurs and Lakers sandwiched between a date with the Jazz on Dec. 3 to conclude group play.

The Thunder closes its season on April 13 in a meeting against the Pelicans in New Orleans.

At some point last season, coach Mark Daigneault acknowledged that development, not seeding, was the priority despite OKC rattling off plenty of wins. That campaign ended in 57 wins and, with one of the tightest races in conference history, the league’s youngest No. 1 seed ever.

With the herd of talent surrounding MVP runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, as well as the significance in home court advantage in such a bloodthirsty West, it might be difficult for the Thunder to shift its attention from seeding this season.
