Ohio State hires Penn State alumnus, Northwestern assistant Talor Battle to coaching staff

Ohio State coach Jake Diebler has filled out his staff by adding Talor Battle as his fifth assistant coach.

Battle, a Penn State graduate and the program's all-time leading scorer, has spent the last three seasons as a member of Chris Collins' coaching staff at Northwestern.

"Talor has great experience in the Big Ten both as a player and as a coach, and I’m excited to welcome him to the Buckeye family,” Diebler said in a statement. “He is elite at player development which is evident by the success Northwestern has had the past couple of seasons. He has the ability to recruit at a high level and knows what it takes to be successful in this conference. I’ve known Talor for quite a while and I’m looking forward to working alongside him as we take the next step as a program.”

A native of Albany, New York, Battle led the Nittany Lions in scoring each of his four seasons, finishing with 2,213 points before graduating in 2011. He then played overseas for seven years before beginning his coaching career at his alma mater for the 2020-21 season.

Battle then joined Northwestern in 2021, where he helped oversee the backcourt of Chase Audige and Boo Buie. He is the fifth assistant hired to Diebler's staff.

Diebler's other assistants as he enters his first year of coaching are Dave Dickerson, Jamall Walker, Luke Simons and associate head coach Joel Justus.

Justus, Walker and Simons were the three OSU coaches allowed to recruit in person last month. Battle is expected to be one of the three going forward as duties for the staff members are finalized.
