Bill Mosiello will not return as Ohio State's baseball coach after two seasons with the program.

After leading the Buckeyes to 60 wins in two seasons, Mosiello resigned from Ohio State, Mosiello is returning to TCU to be the program's top assistant and hitting coach, he confirmed Friday.

Ohio State said Mosiello is "pursuing other professional opportunities."

“We want to thank Bill for his time as a Buckeye and wish him well with his new adventures,” executive associate athletic director Shaun Richard said in a statement.

The release states "a national search for a new head coach will begin immediately."

Mosiello led Ohio State to a seventh place finish in the Big Ten in 2024 with a 12-12 record against conference opponents. Ohio State lost two of its three games in the Big Ten tournament. It was the Buckeyes' first appearance in the Big Ten tournament since 2019.

In his first season at Ohio State, Mosiello led the Buckeyes to 31 wins. But only nine of which came in Big Ten play. Ohio State finished 11th in the Big Ten and outside of the Big Ten tournament.

Mosiello was named Ohio State's baseball coach in June 2022 after nine seasons as the associate head coach with the Horned Frogs.

“The last X amount of years for me, whenever I recruited kids (at TCU), we would talk about going to Omaha and winning a national championship,” Mosiello said after he was hired in 2022. “Here, I don’t know if that’s what’s been talked about. I don’t know why you have (chosen) Ohio State to go to Omaha when they haven’t been there since 1967.

“I had to tell people they are buying the dream that I’m selling them,” Mosiello continued. “So when you commit here, you’re buying this dream. … You’re buying the coaching staff and we’re going to develop you just like we have developed guys in the past. Winning’s a huge part. If they don’t want to win, I don’t want them coming here.”

Ohio State will look for its 13th head coach since 1900. and third since 2022.

Before Mosiello, Greg Beals led the Buckeyes to 346 wins in 634 games, including 141 Big Ten wins. Beals was fired after the 2022 season

Bob Todd, who coached the Buckeyes for 23 seasons from 1988-2010, is the winningest coach in Ohio State history with 901.

Former Ohio State baseball players react to Bill Mosiello resignation

Two former members of the Ohio State baseball team did not hold back their reactions to Mosiello's move Friday.

"Unbelievable," former Ohio State pitcher Connor Curlis, who is now in the Cincinnati Reds organization, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Was always one foot in! (Ohio State baseball) deserves way better and it's time to find that."

TJ Brock, a former Ohio State pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, said "(it's) a privilege to wear the Block (O)."

"We need to find someone that understands that and will lead by (example), not by words," Brock wrote.
