No. 7 LSU women's basketball upset by Auburn on the road, 16-game win streak snapped

Getting to the free throw line is half the battle. Making them is the most aspect of getting free shots.

LSU women's basketball stars Hailey Van Lith, Flau'jae Johnson and Angel Reese each missed free throws in the final minutes while trailing Auburn 62-60 with less than two minutes left inside Neville Arena Sunday afternoon.

Much like the rest of the game, Auburn dictated the tempo, keeping LSU off its rhythm and it got the game's biggest rebound with 40 seconds left. With 10 seconds left, JaMya Mingo-Young stole the ball from Reese, knocked down two free throws to upset LSU, 67-62.

The loss snapped a 16-game win streak for LSU (16-2, 3-1) while the win was the first SEC win for Auburn (12-5, 1-3). LSU went 16-for-25 at the free throw line.

Auburn kept it close with LSU women's basketball by what Kim Mulkey covets: defense, rebounding

LSU has been able to stretch leads by getting opponents in foul trouble and getting to the foul line. But Auburn did a remarkable job of putting pressure on LSU's guards without fouling. The tight defense didn't allow LSU any space and when Van Lith, Johnson, Last-Tear Poa or freshman sensation Mikaylah Williams put up shots, the rhythm wasn't there as they combined for 23 points.

Auburn consistently forced LSU deep into the shot clock on its possessions, something LSU's not used to.

Coming into Sunday, Mulkey's bunch boasted a plus-16 margin in rebounding. Auburn didn't much care as it prevented Reese and Aneesah Morrow from feasting off the offensive glass. Auburn took a 26 to 25 rebounding edge into the final quarter with LSU up 52-51.

Angel Reese tallies 50th straight game with 10-plus points, joining Seimone Augustus

Reese's LSU career is 50 games long. And with 10-plus points at Auburn, 50 is how many consecutive games the star junior forward has scored on that clip.

She joins LSU legend Seimone Augustus as the first player to hit that mark. Augustus had 97 straight games with at least 10 points.

Reese surpassed 10 points in the second quarter off a layup. She finished the game with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Early foul trouble foreshadows as game would go for LSU

Mulkey was forced to play three freshmen together in a tight game late in the first half as Reese, Johnson and Poa dealt with foul trouble.

Mikaylah Williams starts for LSU but freshmen Janae Kent and Aalyah Del Rosario were thrusted into action late in the second quarter, playing extended, meaningful minutes for the first time this season.
