No. 4 Clemson baseball loses to No. 17 Georgia in 15 innings on walk-off wild pitch

It wasn't the 20-inning game, 50-strikeout game of five years ago, but Clemson baseball's 4-3 loss to No. 17 Georgia on Tuesday at Foley Field went 15 innings, with 35 combined strikeouts.

After being tied at 3 after the ninth, the Bulldogs (30-10, 9-9 SEC) broke through six innings later after Paul Toetz scored on a walk-off wild pitch with the bases loaded. Clemson's Rocco Reid's pitch bounced past catcher Jimmy Obertop, allowing the Georgia left fielder to score.

No. 4 Clemson (32-8, 13-5 ACC) made it an emphasis to limit Georgia slugger Charlie Condon, who is projected to be a top pick in the MLB draft. He went 1-for-4, walked three times (two intentional) and struck out twice. The redshirt sophomore entered Tuesday leading the nation in batting average (.483), slugging percentage (1.119) and home runs (26).

The Tigers battled back from an early one-run deficit after the second inning behind Blake Wright's two-run triple in the third to take the lead and Cam Cannarella's solo homer in the fourth. But Georgia's Corey Collins hit an RBI single in the seventh and ninth to tie the game and force extra innings.

Clemson was held scoreless in the final 10 innings and batted 11-for-51 in the five-hour-plus game. It looks to rebound against Louisville (24-16, 9-9) in a three-game ACC series this weekend.
