No. 1 WNBA draft pick Caitlin Clark's boyfriend is Connor McCaffery, who works for Pacers
Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has company as she begins her WNBA career in Indianapolis. Her boyfriend is Connor McCaffery, who works for the NBA's Indiana Pacers.
Both played basketball at the University of Iowa. Clark just finished her career as Division I basketball's career leading scorer and in assists. McCaffery averaged 4.5 points per game from 2017-23, and he also played baseball at Iowa, for his dad Fran.
What is Connor McCaffery doing now?
McCaffery, 25, wants to coach basketball. He is learning how that works with the Pacers.
“I’ll play dummy defense, run the scout team, help coaches on film stuff, help on video projects if they need, scouting reports if they need,” McCaffery told HawkCentral in 2023. “It’s kind of all-hands on deck, whatever you’re asked to do, be ready to do it.
“It’s a way in. It’s an entry-level job. You’ve got to work hard and work your way up. That’s obviously what I want to do.”

Connor McCaffery already in Indianapolis
“It’s great, obviously it makes the transition a little bit easier,” Caitlin Clark told IndyStar of having a local support system already in place. “You’ve got people that know the city, and obviously Connor being there is tremendous. I couldn’t imagine a better place to start my professional career.”
Are Connor and Patrick McCaffery related?
They are brothers and sons of Fran McCaffery, Iowa basketball's head coach. Patrick McCaffery played for the Hawkeyes from 2019-24, averaging 8.5 points. Patrick McCaffery battled cancer as a teenager and has been open about mental health challenges he has faced.
Patrick McCaffery has transferred to Butler, in Indianapolis, for the 2024-25 season.
"Obviously, the basketball situation has to be right," Patrick said. "There's a lot of boxes that needed to be checked there. That's why my visit last week went really well. … Having my brother there plays a big factor. He was friendly with a bunch of the guys on the staff there. He'd been to several practices and stuff. It definitely played a factor as well."

Fran McCaffery has been Iowa's coach for 14 seasons, compiling a 280-191 record and making the NCAA Tournament seven times.
