Niceville, South Walton celebrate Early Signing Day with lauded signing ceremonies
Niceville and South Walton High took full advantage of the first signing day of the 2024-25 school campaign with a pair of lauded signing ceremonies.
The Seahawks had four Division-I-bound baseball players sign scholarships in front of friends, family, coaches, teammates and classmates ahead of the Seahawks' spring run, which will look to build on last year's 21-11 run to the 4A state championship game.
Meanwhile, Niceville had a variety of volleyball, baseball and golf letterman celebrate their signings in front of a packed Niceville auditorium. Beginning with the Eagles, here were the signings:
Swimming and Diving: Choctaw, Niceville shine in 3A state championships
Niceville
Ana Colon, University of West Florida: Helping lead the Eagles' volleyball team to a 24-6 season where they qualified for the Sweet 16, the senior outside hitter delivered 292 kills, 206 digs, 53 aces and was an integral force in Niceville's serve-receive.
Landon Hawkins, Huntingdon College: The right-handed pitcher posted a 4.53 ERA last year with three wins, 19 Ks in 17 innings and a .176 batting average against.
Camryn Lux, University of Montevallo: Lux enters the state tournament fresh off an 82 at regionals. Last year she shot 78 to win the district title, 83 at regionals and an 85-87 at state to finish 51st.
Brady Martin, Troy University: The senior right-handed pitcher went 5-1 with a 1.36 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings
Elise Smith, North Greenville University: The senior outside hitter had 255 kills, 122 digs, 49 aces and was central in Niceville's serve-receive.
Hunter Tarchalski, Northwest Florida State College: The shortstop/RHP is the reigning Daily News 5A Hitter and Pitcher of the Year after he posted a .471 batting average, 22 RBIs, 13 runs, 10 extra-base hits, a 15/7 BB:K ratio, four stolen bases and a .563/.642/1.206 slash line — all while sporting a team-leading 2.24 ERA and .167 opponent's batting average for the Vikings his junior year. He struck out 52 Ks over 34 1/3 innings.
Whitleigh Walsh, Northwest Nazarene University: For the 24-6 Eagles' volleyball team, the senior libero posted 296 digs and 50 aces and led Niceville's serve-receive.
South Walton
Cameron Tipton-Thomas, Troy University: The Chalmette (Louisiana) transfer hit .283 with 18 runs, 17 RBIs, five stolen bases and two homers while posting a 1.40 ERA with a .68 WHIP and 36 Ks in 25 innings and holding batters to a .128 batting average.
Braxton Varnes, Florida State University: The 3B/RHP hit .281 with seven stolen bases, 19 runs and 12 RBIs while posting a 3.63 ERA with two wins, a save and 18 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings.
Frank Wells, Georgia Southern University: The senior helped lead the Seahawks to the state championship game with a .389 batting average, 25 runs, 21 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
Charlie Wilcox, Georgia Tech University: The 6-3, 210-pound right-handed pitcher/infielder hit three homers and drive in 20 runs as a junior. His arsenal of pitches projects well at the next level.
