Choctaw, Niceville shine in 3A state swimming championships
OCALA — While the men's relay teams for Choctaw and Niceville battled it out in Friday's 3A Swimming and Diving State Championships, a couple of Eagle women made a run at gold in their respective individual swims.
Choctaw's Eric Radomski, Jachym Baca, Bode McGuirk and Zach Smith finished third in boys 200-yard medley relay in 1:36.45 to nip the fourth-place Niceville group of Tripp Gallemore, Kian Fuhrman, Nicholas Venture and Logan Michel who finished in 1:36.45.
But Niceville's Venture, Michel, Fuhrman and Joseph William Pugh finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:27.32, ahead of the sixth-place team of Choctaw's Baca, Radomski, Smith and Juliano Reents Velez at 1:28.00.
Baca also placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.48 as the Choctaw men finished 13th as a team. Gallemore's seventh-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.38 seconds helped the Eagle men place eighth as a team.
On the women's side, Elisabeth Breck and Khloe De Santana Guidry each had three medals for the Eagles.
Breck nearly won the 100-yard backstroke after a 56.33 finish, just .19 seconds off the pace of state champ Haylee Hite, and finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.91.
De Santana Guidry finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.78 and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.10. As a team, the Niceville women placed ninth.
Breck and De Santana Guidry also teamed up with Reanna Panarisi and Emma Michel to finish sixth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.77.
Fort Walton Beach will compete in the 2A State Swimming and Diving Championships on Nov. 16, while the 1A meet takes place Friday.
