NFL fans, analysts think refs bailed Chiefs out vs. Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) attempts to hold back wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase (1) as he continues to shout at a referee in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 2 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024. The Chiefs took a 26-25 win with a go-ahead field goal as time expired.

The Cincinnati Bengals were on the wrong end of a massive penalty that swung the outcome of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

On a fourth down with the game on the line and the Chiefs down two points, officials flagged Bengals rookie Daijahn Anthony for making contact with a Patrick Mahomes target down the field.

The flag gave the Chiefs a new set of downs and they won the game on a field goal by a single point a few plays later.

Many, though, took to social media to point out that it wasn't necessarily as cut and dry as Anthony getting there first. Some wondered if the Chiefs player made contact and others pointed out that both players had the right to make a play on the ball.

Either way, it quickly became one of the hottest topics of the week:
