NFC West Watch: 49ers LB Dre Gleenlaw likely to start the season on PUP list
A bit of news coming from the Seattle Seahawks’ primary rival in the City by the Bay. Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune, in a conversation with San Francisco 49ers insider Cam Inman, has announced an interesting tidbit regarding one of San Francisco’s best players: linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
During Super Bowl LVIII, Greenlaw left the game with an injury, which was revealed to be an Achilles tear. Suffering such a brutal injury at the very end of the season was always bound to affect his following season, and it looks like this is going to be the case.
Inman told Bell that Greenlaw is likely going to begin the 2024 campaign on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Should this end up being the case, there is one game in particular that Greenlaw is in jeopardy of missing.
My friend @CamInman says LB Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) is likely to begin not only training camp but the 49ers season on the PUP list.
That would have him miss the first 6 weeks of the season–including 49ers at #Seahawks week 6 https://t.co/1rRrBzpyzR

The 49ers have had Seattle’s number the last few years. Obviously, their offense led by Christian McCaffrey, has had their way with the Seahawks’ weak run defense. But San Francisco hasn’t faced much difficulty defending Seattle’s offense either. In the last five games, the Seahawks have only scored point totals of 7, 13, 23, 13, and 16.
The 49ers still have plenty of other quality defenders who are more than capable of making life difficult for Geno Smith and Co., but not having Greenlaw in the lineup will be a massive break for Seattle.
