When are the next Olympics? Here's when you can catch the 2024 Summer Games.

The countdown to the Olympic Games is closing in, and officials from the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee are already preparing to go for gold. Team USA will have more than 800 athletes this year, officials previously told USA TODAY.

Team USA will trade in skis and snowboards for Summer Game competitions like swimming, sailing, cycling, surfing and volleyball in hopes of adding medals to the country's current record.

With the games less than a month away, here’s when to tune in.

When are the next Olympics?

The 2024 Olympics will kick off on July 26 and last until August 11.

The Olympics happen every two years, switching off between the Summer and Winter Games on even-numbered years. The last time the Summer Olympics happened was in 2021 in Tokyo, postponed from the originally scheduled 2020 event because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Where are the 2024 Olympics?

The 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in Paris, France.

Hosting the games does not come without complications, however. The country has already raised its security alert to the highest level due to conflict in the Middle East, Ukraine and the threat of terrorist attacks. French President Emmanuel Macron said France prepared alternatives for the opening ceremony should security threats arise, including moving the ceremony to a square near the Eiffel Tower or to the Stade de France stadium, Reuters reported.

French police oversaw the eviction of hundreds of migrants and homeless people in what one local charity criticized as a “social cleansing ahead of the Games. Another nonprofit found “alarming” levels of bacteria in parts of the Seine River, one of the open-water swimming venues for the games.

Conversely, the city's new Olympic venue is being praised by officials as a symbol of sustainability and local investment because it was built with recycled materials and wood and features a green roof. It will provide sports facilities to a neglected community after the 2024 Games, the Associated Press reported earlier this year. It's located in the Porte de La Chapelle neighborhood, an area of Paris that once was known for a rampant crack cocaine problem and is now facing gentrification

Where will the 2026 Olympics be?

The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Italy, in both Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, from February 6-22.

After that, U.S. athletes will compete on home turf in Los Angeles in 2028. The 2032 Olympics will be in Brisbane, Australia.

A host city hasn't been named for the 2030 Winter Olympics yet. This delay gives the committee more time to address challenges like warmer temperatures and vanishing snow in many places increasingly affected by climate change, USA TODAY previously reported.
