NBA great Kevin Garnett praises Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey: 'He look like Zach Alcindor'
The list of Zach Edey fans is continuing to grow. This time, the Memphis Grizzlies rookie drew some hefty praise from NBA legend Kevin Garnett.
While on the "Ticket & The Truth Podcast," Garnett mentioned Edey as a player he liked early on in the preseason. Then, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer couldn't stop complimenting what he's seen.
Edey's patented hook shot caught the attention of Garnett, who compared him to the NBA's second all-time leading scorer. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who formerly went by Lew Alcindor, is notoriously recognized for having the most unstoppable hook shot in NBA history.
"(He) look like (expletive) Zach Alcindor," Garnett said. "That (expletive) look like Yao (Ming)."
Edey's most recent game, a 23-point performance against the Indiana Pacers, was his best of the preseason. That game caught the attention of Garnett and was the basis for the praise.
Garnett compared Edey's dominance to his co-host, Paul Pierce, going against his son.
"He had Myles Turner looking like you and Prince in the backyard," Garnett said.
Pierce joined Garnett in his excitement for the Grizzlies rookie by noting that an Edey and Ja Morant pick-and-roll "is going to be a problem."
Edey has been one of the most talked about players from the 2024 draft class due to a wide ranging of opinions on his skills. One draft analyst went as far as to say he could be one of the worst picks of all time. Then, there are people like Garnett who are mentioning Edey's name with all-time greats.

Considering that Edey will likely serve as the starting Grizzlies center, opinions on his skills will likely determine how someone feels about the Grizzlies' chances to have a good season.
"I like Memphis, man," Garnett said. "I can't wait to see it — I need to see it all out there."
