How much money LSU football is paying Nicholls for its 2024 home opener? Find out here.

BATON ROUGE — LSU football opens up the home portion of its 2024 football schedule against Nicholls State Saturday, which is set for (6:30 p.m., ESPN+) inside Tiger Stadium.

The game will be the first meeting between the two programs that are separated by 69 miles, a quick 90-minute sojourn down Interstate 10.

To host the Colonels, members of the Southland Conference as part of the FCS division, how much is LSU shelling out for the guarantee game?

Per records obtained by the USA Today Sports Network, Nicholls is pocketing $760,000 for its first visit to Tiger Stadium this weekend.

That amount is standard for typical market value for FBS programs scheduling and paying an FCS program. LSU wrote a check for the same amount to Grambling State last season but it's $60,000 more than what it paid Southern, who is also located in Baton Rouge, back in 2022. In 2021, McNeese State earned $750,000 for playing the Tigers.

LSU received a $5 million payout to play USC in Las Vegas at the Vegas Kickoff Classic Sunday, an event put on by ESPN.

Per the agreement, LSU is also responsible for a $10,000 to the Nicholls' Colonel Athletic Association, a fundraising branch of the school's athletic department that helps in program enhancements.

No. 19 LSU (0-1) lost to No. 11 USC, 27-20, in Las Vegas Sunday night to kickoff the season. The Colonels kept it close the entire game but ultimately lost on the road at Louisiana Tech, 25-17, last Saturday.
