LSU football loses RB John Emery for the season with knee injury | Reports

BATON ROUGE — An already thin LSU football running back room is now thinner after one game into the 2024 season.

Senior tailback John Emery has reportedly suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season, per multiple reports. The Advocate first reported the news of the injury.

Emery went down with the injury during the team's practice Tuesday afternoon.

The sixth-year running back was working his way back from an ACL tear he suffered during LSU's game with Florida last November. He was able to play in the Tigers' season opener in Las Vegas against USC on Sunday night.

Emery had the best performance of any of the Tigers' tailbacks against the Trojans, rushing for 61 yards on 10 carries, including a game-best 39-yard run in the third quarter that set up a touchdown that gave LSU its first lead of the game. USC went on the win the game 27-20.

Without Emery, LSU will now have to count on freshman Caden Durham to help bolster the already thin running back room. Trey Holly remains suspended while he continues to deal with legal issues.

Senior Josh Williams started at tailback for LSU and had nine rushes for 33 yards. Sophomore Kaleb Jackson was the second running back to appear in the game and he finished with six rushes for 18 yards.
