With another action-packed month of MMA in the books, MMA Junkie looks at the best submissions from July 2024: Here are the five nominees, listed in chronological order, and winner of MMA Junkie's Submission of the Month award for July.

Nominee: Evan Elder def. Darrius Flowers at UFC on ESPN 59

[autotag]Evan Elder[/autotag] (9-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Darrius Flowers (12-8-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC) agreed to their welterweight fight on four days' notice, and did it at elevation in Denver. The conditioning on both sides largely showed why that might not be the best ideal

Still, Elder got the job done. He secured an arm-triangle choke in the second round of the contest, getting him a much-needed win over Flowers.

Nominee: Julian Erosa def. Christian Rodriguez at UFC on ESPN 59

[autotag]Julian Erosa[/autotag]'s (29-11 MMA, 8-7 UFC) third octagon stint continues to pale in comparison to his first after he put away Christian Rodriguez (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC)

Erosa has now won seven of 10 fights since returning to the promotion in June 2020 courtesy of a first-round submission win over Rodriguez. During a scramble after catching a kick, Erosa managed to snatch the neck of Rodriguez and lock in a guillotine choke that forced the tap at the 4:49 mark of Round 1.

Nominee: Virna Jandiroba def. Amanda Lemos at UFC on ESPN 60

[autotag]Virna Jandiroba[/autotag] (21-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) might’ve locked in a Submission of the Year candidate when she slickly and violently made Amanda Lemos (14-3-1 MMA, 8-3 UFC) tap out in their strawweight main event.

In a grappling-heavy affair, Jandiroba seemed to have an answer for everything Lemos presented. The finishing sequence was a thing of beauty as Jandiroba slipped from a rear-naked choke attempt on the back to torque a gruesomely-angled armbar.

Nominee: Sam Patterson def. Kiefer Crosbie at UFC 304

[autotag]Sam Patterson[/autotag] (12-2-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) was quickly able to establish dominance on the ground before submitting Kiefer Crosbie (10-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) in their welterweight bout.

Patterson scored his second straight first-round submission when he cinched in an arm-triangle choke on Crosbie within three minutes of the opening round. Patterson caught Crosbie coming in with an uppercut before taking him down to the mat and submitting him.

The winner: Paddy Pimblett def. King Green at UFC 304

Paddy Pimblett def. King Green at UFC 304: Best photos

[autotag]Paddy Pimblett[/autotag] passed arguably his toughest test to date in flying colors.

Pimblett (22-3 MMA, 6-0 UFC) backed up all the talk with a textbook triangle choke submission that left King Green (32-16-1 MMA, 13-11-1 UFC) snoozing on the canvas at 3:22 of Round 1.

Green came out swinging, but ultimately shot for a takedown. Pimblett grabbed his neck and pulled for a guillotine choke. When Green popped his head out, Pimblett promptly snatched a triangle choke. Green tried to adjust, but Pimblett grabbed his leg.

As Green sat back the lights went out and Pimblett incorporated an armbar, as well. Green was unconscious and the fight was waved off.

Pimblett continues his surge up the UFC ladder. The submission was his third in six UFC fights. Prior to the win over Green, Pimblett had defeated Tony Ferguson, Jared Gordon, and Jordan Leavitt among others.
