Missouri football score: Tigers hammered by Texas A&M in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Sure looked like the Aggies had 12 men.

No. 25 Texas A&M hit No. 9 Missouri with the haymaker Saturday at Kyle Field, running the Tigers ragged in the first half and keeping a foot firmly planted on their neck all game long for a 41-10 win in Aggieland.

Conner Weigman carved the Tigers up in his first start since Week 2, going 15-of-19 for 193 yards in the first half, which is when the home team managed to put the game beyond any doubt.

The Aggies led 24-0 at the half courtesy of two touchdowns from Amari Daniels and one from Le’Veon Moss, all courtesy of long sustained drives down to the goal line that just needed finishing touches from the running backs.

It didn’t get much better for Eli Drinkwitz’s team after the break.

Moss took the first snap of the second half 75 yards to the end zone for his second trip of the day. He took an 18-yarder into the end zone in the fourth quarter for his third touchdown.

The Tigers, meanwhile, flailed and flapped and could hardly find an inch of inspiration.

An ineligible receiver penalty pulled back a 75-yard, Luther Burden touchdown when the Tigers were down just 10 points. Mizzou had just 79 yards of total offense in the first half, as quarterback Brady Cook was hounded and hammered behind the line of scrimmage far too often to get much going. He took six sacks.

A 59-yard touchdown pass to Theo Wease Jr. in the third quarter was little more than a consolation score.

Mizzou’s hopes of a spot in the College Football Playoff didn’t die in College Station, technically, but the Tigers took a near-fatal blow.

Fourth quarter updates

1:46 p.m.: Le'Veon Moss runs in for his third touchdown of the day, this one from 18 yards. The Texas A&M crowd is chanting "overrated," and it's hard to disagree.

1:44 p.m.: The A&M videoboard zoomed in on Cook's face with the message "the noise was louder at practice." It got quite loud at Kyle Field, and Missouri immediately false started for the second straight play. They then ran a fourth-and-19 on which Cook was immediately sent scrambling before throwing a last-gasp incomplete pass for a second turnover on downs of the day.

End of third quarter: Texas A&M 34, Mizzou 7

1:32 p.m.: Missouri's offense has moved into A&M territory, and will face a third-and-5 when the game returns for the final 15 minutes.

1:23 p.m.: With the helping hand of a couple holding penalties, Missouri manages to get the Texas A&M offense off the field rather quickly. Tigers will take over with a couple minutes left in the third quarter.

1:16 p.m.: At long last, life from Missouri. Brady Cook peeled right and then dropped a pass to a wide-open Theo Wease Jr. It's a 59-yard touchdown, and the Tigers are on the scoreboard. Four-score game, technically. 34-7

1:09 p.m.: Texas A&M converts a 38-yard field goal to make this game 34-0. Small victories: Zion Young got Mizzou's first sack of the day in that drive.

1:01 p.m.: The half may have changed, but some things have stayed the same. Namely: Brady Cook getting rocked behind the line of scrimmage on third down. That is the fourth time he has been sacked today, as the Mizzou blocking remains absolutely atrocious.

12:56 p.m.: Touchdown Texas A&M. First-play touchdown for Texas A&M, too. 75 yards, Le'Veon Moss. Game over, and the second half has barely begun.

Half: Texas A&M 24, Missouri 0

12:36 p.m.: Half-time numbers ... The scoreline barely does justice to this mauling.

  • Conner Weigman is 15-of-19 for 193 yards; Brady Cook is 4-of-12 for 63 yards.

  • The Aggies have run for 112 yards and three touchdowns; the Tigers have run for 16 yards.

  • Ten A&M receivers have registered a catch. Two Missouri receivers have catches.

  • Texas A&M has 14 first downs and 18:25 time of possession. Missouri has four first downs, three of which coming on one drive and the other coming on the first play of the game.

12:34 p.m.: Well, when it's your day, it's your day. Burden let the punt drop, and it took a 90-degree bounce out about an inch inside the pylon. Brady Cook wisely took one snap deep in safety territory and chucked it well into Kyle Field.

12:31 p.m.: Texas A&M's offense stalls out at midfield, and Missouri takes its final timeout with 15 seconds to go in the half. The Aggies will punt to Luther Burden.

12:21 p.m.: Missouri got three first downs in succession and moved into A&M territory for the first time since the opening drive. But then a thundering sack on Brady Cook took the Tigers into third-and-long, and the QB was very nearly picked off. Punt team is out for Mizzou again. Texas A&M will have 2:10 to work with before the end of the half.

12:07 p.m.: Touchdown Texas A&M. Toriano Pride missed a pick. Dreyden Norwood got burned over the top. The Aggies ran all over Missouri, again, and got back in the end zone with Le'Veon Moss from the goal line. This one is all but done.

12:04 p.m.: Cornerback Toriano Pride Jr. missed a prime opportunity to pick Conner Weigman off but missed. The Tigers can't really afford to pass up any presents right now. Then, two plays later, Weigman hits a huge pass over the top to take A&M into Mizzou territory. Norwood got burned, there.

11:57 a.m.: Missouri's offense goes three-and-out, right when it can't really afford too many three-and-outs. Luke Bauer punts it 57 yards to the A&M 12-yard line, which might be about the most positive play of Mizzou's day.

11:52 a.m.: Touchdown A&M. Amari Daniels converted the third down. Four chances from the goal line, and the Aggies needed just one, turning back to Daniels to take a 17-0 lead. Missouri is spiraling.

End of first quarter: Texas A&M 10, Missouri 0

11:48 a.m.: The first quarter ends with Texas A&M knocking on the door again. The Aggies will have a third-and-3 from the 6 when the game returns.

11:40 a.m.: Missouri went from Luther Burden waltzing into the end zone, to a third-and-20 courtesy of an ineligible receiver tagged to Mitch Walters and a delay of game, to running out the punt team. The Tigers are, to be as polite as possible, a mess right now. Down 10-0 and self-inflicted wounds running rampant.

11:39 a.m.: Ouch. An inelligible receiver penalty just pulled back a 75-yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden III. That hurts.

11:34 a.m.: Field goal Texas A&M. Another chunk play and some more poor tackling from the #Mizzou defense, as Aggies receiver Noah Thomas took a 29-yard catch-and-run into Tigers territory. The Tigers did get the Aggies offense off the field to set up a 44-yard field goal try, which A&M converted. Five minutes remaining in the first quarter, A&M is up 10-0 and outplaying Mizzou in all facets.

11:26 a.m.: Three-and-out for the Missouri offense in response to the Aggies' touchdown. An overthrown ball to Theo Wease and a wrap up on a QB keeper send the offense back off the field. Nate Noel had a short gain on first down, but that's all MU manages.

11:19 a.m.: Touchdown Texas A&M. Amari Daniels went 25 yards to set up the goal-to-go at the goal line, then punched it in on the first attempt. Some really suspect tackling from Mizzou there as the Aggies' tailback carved through the defense. Aggies up 7-0, with 9:17 remaining in the first quarter.

11:12 a.m.: Turnover on downs for Missouri. The incomplete fourth-and-short pass to Theo Wease Jr. looked like it got a helping hand with a PI flag, but that is turned over after discussion. A&M ball.

11:11 a.m.: After a picture-perfect back-shoulder fade to Luther Burden to start the game for 27 yards, Missouri has struggled to move much more. Offense staying on the field for a fourth and short.

11:05 a.m.: Texas A&M won the toss and deferred to the second half. The ball is going to Mizzou's offense to begin. Here we go.

Pregame updates

11:01 a.m.: The Aggies cadets have played. They've gigged an' 'em. The players are emerging from the tunnel, with Missouri's captains the first to take the field. The next update you get will be live from the game, which kicks off in five minutes.

10:44 a.m.: Texas A&M's radio network is reporting that Conner Weigman will start at quarterback. That is not what Eli Drinkwitz predicted midweek. Aggies are officially going back to their Week 1 starter after a three-game absence with injury. Marcel Reed had been 3-0 as the starter.

10:36 a.m.: Back from the field with a couple of updates: Marquis Johnson is fully dressed in Mizzou uniform and warming up. That is not a guarantee that he will play, but is a good sign.

On the other sideline, quarterback Conner Weigman was taking pre-game reps with starting Aggies center Kolinu'u Faaiu and starting running back Le'Veon Moss. Again, this is not a guarantee that Weigman will be the A&M starter, but it is a decent indicator that is the way Elko and Co. are leaning.

9:53 a.m.: Heading down to the field for any last-minute observations. I believe the gates are now open at Kyle Field, as some fans are beginning to filter in to the stadium. The stadium videoboard says there is about 73 minutes until kickoff.

9:45 a.m.: Missouri wide receiver Theo Wease seemingly was sent a blanket by A&M corner Will Lee last night as a hotel-warming gift, or, more likely, as a mind game. Well, Wease is wearing the blanket to the game, per the post below.

How could you not like college football?

9:39 a.m.: Mizzou wide receiver Marquis Johnson is a game-time decision, per the final SEC availability report before the game. On the A&M end, so is QB Conner Weigman. Looks a lot like we aren't getting any clarity on A&M's starter until they walk out for the game.

9:22 a.m.: Brady Cook is currently out on Kyle Field getting in some early warmups. So, notably, is wide receiver Marquis Johnson, who has been listed as questionable on each SEC-mandated availability report this week. The final report will be due in about 10 minutes, with Johnson's status the lone question on the Mizzou end.

For Texas A&M, we'll find out whether Week 1 starting quarterback Conner Weigman is available or not. Reports emerged this morning from Pete Thamel that the QB is still a game-time decision.

9:14 a.m.: A note I've never seen in a press box before: "Please do not be alarmed as the press box will move during the Aggie War Hymn."

The noise of this stadium, which holds more than 104,000 made a couple headlines this week as A&M head coach Mike Elko took some comments from quarterback Brady Cook as a challenge to the Texas A&M fans, known as the 12th Man. Looks like we'll have a noisy one here today for Missouri's first road game of the season.

9:12 a.m.: The Columbia Daily Tribune has arrived at Kyle Field for the game between No. 9 Mizzou and No. 25 Texas A&M. Luther Burden III is currently out on the field being interviewed live on College GameDay, if you would like to tune in.
