(This story was updated to add new information.)

It pays not to play, sometimes.

Missouri football moved back into the top 10 of the US LBM Coaches Poll after its first idle week of the season, moving up two places to take the No. 9 spot in Sunday’s latest rankings.

The Tigers are 4-0 and one of 19 remaining undefeated FBS teams. Four teams in the SEC — Mizzou, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas — are heading into October with unblemished records.

Missouri jumped one of the teams that lost its and-0 record Saturday, as Ole Miss, which lost to unranked Kentucky at home, dropped six spots to No. 11 in the coaches poll. Mizzou also leapfrogged Utah, which lost late Saturday night at home against Arizona and is now No. 18 in the country, according to the coaches.

Alabama knocked off top-ranked Georgia in an instant-classic Saturday evening in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and rose two spots to No. 2 in the poll, falling just nine voting points short of the top spot. Texas moved from No. 2 to the No. 1 spot in the polls and received 29 of 55 first-place votes to also move above the Bulldogs, who are now ranked fifth.

Ohio State is No. 3 in the coaches poll. Tennessee, which did not play, is now up to No. 4 in the country.

Two of the three teams who moved ahead of Missouri in last week's poll — Oregon and Miami — managed to stay ahead of the Tigers and among the top 10 teams in the country. The Hurricanes survived a Friday night scare from Virginia Tech and moved up to No. 8, and Oregon defeated UCLA on the road to move up to No. 6 in the country. Penn State defeated ranked Illinois at home and is now No. 7.

Next up for Missouri is a ranked matchup on the road.

Texas A&M, which is Mizzou’s next opponent Saturday in College Station, defeated Arkansas at home and moved up three spots to No. 21.

SEC Nation and the Marty & McGee show each will air Saturday morning live from College Station for Texas A&M-Mizzou ahead of the 11 a.m. kickoff. The Paul Finebaum Show also will be in Aggie-land, with the network host’s show set to air Friday evening.

There are nine total SEC teams ranked in the top 25, with the conference’s contingency rounded out by LSU and Oklahoma. The Sooners defeated Auburn to move up one spots to No. 17, and LSU defeated South Alabama to rise one place to No. 12.

Missouri football takes No. 9 spot in AP poll

Mizzou also was the No. 9-ranked team in the AP Top 25 rankings released Sunday. Like in the coaches poll, the Tigers climbed two spots and jumped above Ole Miss and Utah.

Texas A&M is the last team in the top 25 and tied with UNLV for the 25th spot, meaning the Tigers' game in College Station will be a ranked matchup.

Alabama did claim the top spot in the AP poll, jumping Texas for the No. 1 ranking. The top five is rounded out by Ohio State at No. 3, Tennessee at No. 4 and Georgia at No. 5.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Ole Miss dropped to No. 12, which is one spot ahead of LSU at No. 13. Oklahoma is the 19th-ranked team in the poll this week. South Carolina and Kentucky received votes but are unranked.
