Missouri football lands 4-star receiver Jayvan Boggs. Here’s what that means for Mizzou

A potentially big recruiting week in Columbia started with a bang.

Missouri football secured a commitment out of four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs on Thursday, when the Cocoa, Florida, product became the second wideout to commit to the Tigers’ Class of 2025 and the 13th player overall in a recruiting class that is quickly rising up the national rankings.

Boggs chose the Tigers over UCF, the nearby school to his hometown Cocoa High. He is rated as the 24th-ranked wideout in his class and the No. 211 player in the nation, per the recruiting service 247Sports’ composite rankings. During his recruitment, Boggs officially visited Georgia and USC before narrowing his options down to UCF and Missouri.

He is the second wide receiver to commit to Mizzou’s next class, following Ironton, Ohio, native Shaun Terry, a three-star prospect at the position.

Missouri missed out on in-state four-star prospect Corey Simms, a Christian Brothers College in St. Louis product, who chose to verbally commit to USC over Missouri on Sunday.

Mizzou didn’t miss at the second time of asking for a wide receiver this week.

The Tigers have now secured a four- or five-star receiver in every recruiting class of the Eli Drinkwitz era in Columbia.

And Boggs' pledge might just be the start of a class-defining week.

Here’s how the Tigers’ wide receiver room is now looking for the 2025 season, and what Boggs’ commitment does for MU’s Class of 2025.

How will Jayvan Boggs fit in at Missouri football in 2025 season?

There’s a good chance the 6-foot, 188-pound wide receiver will have an opportunity to quickly compete for reps upon his arrival in Columbia next year. Mizzou is set to lose starters Luther Burden III, Theo Wease Jr. and Mookie Cooper to either the 2025 NFL Draft or eligibility at the end of this season. That leaves six scholarship wide receivers eligible to return in 2025.

With Boggs and Terry committed as wide receivers in their next class, the current total of players shaping up to be in CoMo next season is eight. If all returners and verbal commits end up on campus next August, four would be underclassmen.

Mizzou is able to return slot receiver Mekhi Miller, speedy freshman standout Marquis Johnson, Joshua Manning, Daniel Blood and Class of 2024 summer enrollees James Madison II and Courtney Crutchfield.

Boggs has great speed and shows an ability to make plays both on the inside and outside, meaning he might fill the void left behind by the ever-reliable and versatile Cooper.

With a lot of production likely leaving at the end of the year, Mizzou may look at bringing in experience out of the portal. For now, it’s over to the young crew.

Where does Mizzou football’s Class of 2025 now rank, and who is next?

Boggs became the second player to commit to Missouri since it held at least a dozen Class of 2025 prospects on campus between June 21-23. Georgia-based, three-star cornerback Mark Manfred committed to the Tigers that same weekend.

Manfred, who hails from Marietta, Georgia, is the No. 45 corner in his class and held offers from nine SEC schools.

With the two new commitments on board, Missouri’s next recruiting class now ranks No. 24 in 247Sports’ national team rankings, which is good for 10th in the SEC. Only LSU, Clemson, Texas and Michigan have a higher ranking with the same number or fewer total commits. The Tigers’ average star ranking is 18th in the nation and ninth in the SEC.

If the next few days go the Tigers’ way, a significant jump in those rankings is coming.

The Tigers’ attention on the pass-catching front now turns to Olugbode, a four-star receiver who plays his high school football at IMG Academy in Florida. He will pick between Mizzou, Florida, USC, Oregon and Washington on Friday afternoon. He is the 11th-ranked receiver in his class and the No. 86 player in the nation, per 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Four-star safety Charles Bass, an East St. Louis senior, will announce his college decision Wednesday, with Mizzou, Arkansas, Illinois and Kansas State in the running. Four-star offensive lineman Lamont Rogers is due to decide Saturday, with six schools including Missouri, Texas A&M and Oklahoma in contention. Three-star offensive lineman Keiton Jones, a Coffeyville, Kansas native, will choose between Missouri, K-State and Arkansas on Sunday.
