Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers joint practice: 5 Matchups To Watch

TAMPA — The Miami Dolphins are traveling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a joint practice on Wednesday morning, two days ahead of Preseason Week 3.

Tua Tagovailoa, Raheem Mostert and the Dolphins are challenging Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans and the Bucs.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, an offensive mastermind, and Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles, a defensive expert who was once Miami interim head coach, will match wits in practice.

Tampa Bay was 9-8 last season. They beat the Eagles before losing to the Lions in the playoffs.

The Bucs were better on defense than offense, 7th in points allowed last season and 20th in points scored.

Recently the Jaguars reportedly got the best of a joint practice with the Buccaneers, so the folks from Tampa may enter this practice a bit annoyed.

Here are Dolphins vs. Buccaneers matchups to watch

Tampa Bay WR Mike Evans vs. Dolphins CB Storm Duck

Cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey, Ethan Bonner and Cam Smith have been dealing with various injuries. This opens an opportunity for youngsters like Storm Duck, Jason Maitre and Isaiah Johnson. Let’s see how the rookies perform against a receiver like Mike Evans.

Overreaction Monday Let's talk Cam Smith, Erik Ezukanma

Tampa Bay C Graham Barton vs. Dolphins NT Brandon Pili

With the 21st pick, Miami passed on the versatile Barton, from Duke, in the last NFL Draft. Tampa selected him 26th, and he's shown promise. We list Pili here because he made a big play in the last preseason game and he is truly on the very edge of the roster bubble. With Teiar Tart gone, can Pili take advantage and win a spot this week?

Tampa Bay LT Tristan Wirfs vs. Dolphins edge Mo Kamara

Chop Robinson often lines up over the right tackle. Wirfs is one of the best left tackles in the game and so let's see how fellow rookie Kamara does in practice. Kamara had a sack (or tackle for loss of quarterback) depending on who's keeping score in the last game. And he seemed to hold up OK against the run. He's a tough dude.

Dolphins QB Mike White vs. Tampa Bay S Antoine Winfield

Winfield is one of the best safeties in the NFL. White can help himself with some downfield completions this week. He probably still has a teeny-tiny edge on Skylar Thompson because of his experience. But it does feel like White could win or lose his job at Tua Tagovailoa's backup, this week.

Dolphins C Liam Eichenberg vs. Tampa Bay NT Vita Vea

Eichenberg has a real challenge here. Vea is a beast of a man. We're not sure when Aaron Brewer is returning from a hand injury. But Eichenberg playing center could affect his ability to compete for a starting right guard position. The Dolphins' offensive line had some troubles in practice and the Washington game. We'll see if there's improvement.
