How did Chop Robinson, Patrick Paul, Miami Dolphins rookies grade out vs. Washington?

MIAMI GARDENS - Miami Dolphins first-round edge rusher Chop Robinson made his pro debut during Miami's 13-6 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFL preseason Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

Chop had a big tackle for loss in the first half.

"It was cool to get it in the game," coach Mike McDaniel said on CBS during halftime. "His teammates and myself included have seen him do it all camp, so that was a good starting point. We look forward to seeing more of that.”

Running back Jaylen Wright was held out due to a minor injury concern.

"Little something that came up in the last practice, something I’m not too concerned with," McDaniel said.

Wide receiver Tahj Washington is on injured reserve.

Miami Dolphins rookie grades vs. Washington Commanders, Preseason Game 2

Edge Chop Robinson — B

Chop played 23 snaps, 19th among Dolphins defenders. Chop had an eye-opening, explosive tackle for loss on a running back near the end of the first half. In the first quarter, Robinson drew a false start. It seems without question that Chop is going to be able to use a quick first step to get some pressures on the quarterback and some tackles for loss on running back. What will determine if he has a very good or just good rookie season will be how much he improves against the run.

LT Patrick Paul — C

No Dolphins player had more snaps on offense than Paul, who had 52, or 83 percent played. Unfortunately, one snap stands out as particularly bad as Paul was beaten to the inside after oversetting and quarterback Mike White was sacked, fumbling. Paul was beaten to the inside a few times on Saturday. Dolphins quarterbacks were sacked four times on Saturday. Miami had 86 rushing yards, averaging 4.8. But if you remove Chris Brooks' 59-yard run, it was 17 carries for 27 yards, or 1.6 per carry.

Edge Mo Kamara — B

Kamara played 39 snaps, second on the team among edge rushers. Kamara had a sack near the end of the first half. In the post-game summary, it was officially recorded as a tackle for loss. Like Chop, a big part of assessing Mo's rookie season will be how responsible he is against the run. That is the biggest transition these guys will face in transitioning to the NFL.

WR Malik Washington — B

Washington had 27 snaps, fourth among Miami receivers. He had one catch for four yards on two targets. Malik also had five punt returns at 7 yards per return. Malik may have to have a big week to make this team. He could really help himself with big plays in a joint practice and preseason game at Tampa. Erik Ezukanma took a step forward on Saturday and Eazy-E presents a bigger body type.

S Patrick McMorris — B

McMorris had only 25 snaps. Is it possible Miami is hoping if they don't showcase him too much they can sneak him onto practice squad? That would be the ideal scenario. McMorris had one tackle and one fumble recovery. Washington quarterbacks had a passer rating of 70.9 with no touchdown passes, so Miami's pass defense seemed fine.
