Miami Dolphins' Top 10 biggest salary cap hits of 2024
The Dolphins have been making moves to maneuver through a very tight salary cap crunch.
Some of the players whose contracts have been restructured, lowering their 2024 salary cap numbers by spreading out bonuses over future years, include: Bradley Chubb, Terron Armstead, Jalen Ramsey, Zach Sieler, Durham Smythe, Jeff Wilson and Alec Ingold.
The Dolphins could extend receiver Tyreek Hill, who has cap hits of about $31 and $34 million over the next two seasons, in order to lower those extreme numbers.
But do they want to?
In 2026, Hill will be 32 years old.
In that year, Hill has a $56.3 million cap hit.
But Miami could save $45 million with a release then.
There are a lot of factors at play here.
Hill is the NFL's best receiver. He's also had multiple off-the-field incidents.
How long does Hill want to play? He's mentioned possible early retirement.
Let's look at the Dolphins' Top 10 salary cap hits of 2024, at the moment.
Note: Veteran cornerback Xavien Howard was scheduled to have a $25.9 million cap hit but he will not return.
Howard's departure will bring with it an $18.5 million savings on the 2024 cap.
Howard will also cost Miami about $23 million in cap space spread over 2024 and 2025.
