Miami Dolphins lose to Buffalo Bills: Snap Conclusions

MIAMI GARDENS - The Dolphins fell to the Bills, 21-14, on "Sunday Night Football" at Hard Rock Stadium.

No AFC East title.

No NFL Playoffs home game.

A road trip to Kansas City, where it may be 2 degrees.

Let's take a look at some of the snap counts from Sunday night's game and what they reveal:

WR Chase Claypool 4 snaps, 8 percent - Claypool had 2 targets, 1 catch, 3 yards and was the target on Tua Tagovailoa's interception that ended the game. Should Claypool have been the target in that spot? Probably not. Quite probably not. Tyreek Hill played 77 percent of snaps, which is good, but was not available on the final play, which was not good.

CB Eli Apple 78 snaps, 100 percent - Apple had an interception, which was good. But at times he was beaten in pass coverage, which is, well, you know. Some will say beating up on Apple is low-hanging fruit. Well, OK. And Cam Smith must really, really be deep in Vic Fangio's dog house to get zero opportunity.

LB Melvin Ingram 58 snaps, 74 percent - This man played 58 snaps! And, yes, he was on his couch just a few weeks ago. Look, Ingram had a sack. Actually, he had 1.5 sacks and 5 tackles. I do remember him chasing a receiver down the field on one play and it didn't go so great. It is not good that Miami may have to lean on Ingram for massive snap totals with their edge decimation.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Melvin Ingram (6) sacks Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen causing a fumble in the first half of an NFL game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Sept. 25, 2022.

QB Tua Tagovailoa 52 snaps, 100 percent - Look, we haven't listed Tua here but it's worth noting he made it through the 17-game schedule standing. His last two performances - with four interceptions - have been subpar. But it is encouraging for Miami that Tua found a way to protect himself and stay relatively healthy.

LB Jerome Baker 41 snaps, 53 percent - Baker did not start, but played in his return from a knee injury. Late in the game Baker hurt his hand, too. Baker made one of the biggest plays of the game, a tackle as time expired on the first half to keep Buffalo out of the end zone. As a bonus here, we should note safety Jevon Holland (knees) played only 35 percent of snaps, which is unfortunate as he tries to work through continued medical concerns.
