Mets release RHP Adrian Houser

Following Wednesday’s loss to the Minnesota Twins, the Mets announced that right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser has been released.

Houser, 31, was designated for assignment late last week.

The veteran pitcher was originally acquired by the Mets this past offseason, coming over from Milwaukee along with Tyrone Taylor in a deal that sent pitching prospect Coleman Crow to the Brewers.

Houser began the season in the rotation, but struggled mightily to the tune of an 8.16 ERA over his first six starts. He was then moved to the bullpen, where he initially was met with success. While he eventually cooled off, Houser’s relief numbers (3.28 ERA in 16 appearances) were much better than what he did as a starter (8.55 ERA in seven starts).

In addition to Houser, right-hander Ty Adcock was also released. Adcock, 27, pitched to a 14.54 ERA in three games.
