Memphis vs Navy score today: Final score, highlights from Week 4 game
Memphis football wasn’t prepared for quarterback Blake Horvath. No one was.
Navy’s quarterback was sensational on Saturday, helping the Midshipmen (3-0, 2-0 American Athletic Conference) pull off a 56-44 upset win over Memphis (3-1, 0-1 AAC) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Tigers came in as significant favorites but had no answers for Horvath, who accounted for six touchdowns in a star-making performance.
Memphis had won three straight games to start the season behind a dominant defense, but coordinator Jordon Hankins’ unit was repeatedly gashed by Horvath and the Navy offense. After going three-and-out on their first offensive drive, the Midshipmen reeled off five touchdown drives in a row to take a 28-17 lead into the half.
The Tigers came back and made it a one-possession game. Caden Costa kicked and recovered an onside kick, and Memphis had a chance for an improbable game-winning drive. But Seth Henigan was picked off by Rayuan Lane, who returned it for a touchdown to put the final nail in the Tigers’ coffin.
The loss put a serious damper on Memphis’ College Football Playoff hopes. The Tigers host MTSU on Saturday in the non-conference finale.
