How a Memphis junior got in the spotlight while helping Colgate pep band at March Madness

The Colgate cymbalist is getting the spotlight in the first half of No. 3 seed Baylor and No. 14 Colgate's NCAA Tournament first-round game at FedExForum in the Memphis NCAA Regional.

A member of the makeshift Colgate pep band, which features about 30 members from Memphis' pep band, was really getting into a song during a timeout and was featured on the television broadcast.

The cymbalist is Joshua Suggs, a junior at University of Memphis. The drum set in the background is also part of the Memphis pep band.

Colgate adopted several members of Memphis' pep band with Colgate's women's hockey team playing in the NCAA Frozen Four on Friday as well. Colgate administration was looking to potentially as high school bands, but with school in session during the 11:40 a.m. tip-off, Memphis stepped in.

It's not an unusual thing for Colgate to search around for potential pep band replacements.

The Memphis band will be with Colgate through the first two rounds if the Raiders pull of the No. 14/No. 3 upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
