Memphis Grizzlies sign center Jay Huff to standard multiyear contract, fill 15-man roster
The Memphis Grizzlies have signed center Jay Huff to a new multiyear contract, the team announced Monday afternoon.
Huff originally signed with the Grizzlies on a two-way deal. He joins Scotty Pippen Jr., Vince Williams Jr. and GG Jackson as Grizzlies players to get promoted in the past two seasons from two-way contracts.
Huff, 27, has been one of the Grizzlies' breakout stories through three games. Shooting and rim protection were areas Memphis needed to improve, and Huff has done work in those categories. He is averaging 13 points, 1.7 blocks and shooting 57.1% on 2.7 made 3-pointers per game.
Signing the 7-foot-1 Huff to a standard deal fills the Grizzlies' 15th and last open roster spot. Memphis now has an open two-way slot. Point guard Yuki Kawamura and rookie shooting guard Cam Spencer currently occupy two of the three two-way spots.
