Why Grizzlies center Zach Edey had a long talk with Steven Adams after loss vs Rockets
Shortly after the Memphis Grizzlies' 128-108 loss to the Houston Rockets on Friday night at Toyota Center, Zach Edey headed in the direction of one of his mentors.
That mentor just so happens to be former Grizzlies center Steven Adams, who is now a member of the Rockets. Adams missed Friday's game due to a calf injury.
Edey and Adams met at halfcourt, where they talked for more than two minutes. While Edey said he wanted to keep the specifics of the conversation to himself, he noted that Adams offered advice.
"Just big man stuff," Edey said. "That's somebody I've been watching for a while, so everything he's telling me, I'm listening to."

Ironically, Edey is essentially replacing Adams in the role of center for the Grizzlies. Adams started the 2021 and 2022 seasons at center for Memphis. He planned to do so in 2023, but needed surgery during the preseason.
Edey finished Friday's loss with 13 points, nine rebounds and a block in 23 minutes. As a team, the Grizzlies struggled with rebounding.
"It's a battle," Edey said. "You got a bunch of people that can really get up in the league, so you just got to fight for every board."
