Memphis Grizzlies' Marcus Smart expected to miss extended time with finger injury
The Memphis Grizzlies announced Thursday that Marcus Smart will miss at least six weeks because of a finger injury.
Smart ruptured a tendon in a finger on his right hand in the third quarter of Tuesday's win against the Dallas Mavericks. The 10-year veteran guard noticed the injury after making a 3-pointer and notified personnel on the Grizzlies' bench.
Smart likely will miss his return to Boston on Feb. 4. He played his first nine seasons with the Celtics before being traded to the Grizzlies in the offseason.
This is the second major injury for Smart this season. He suffered a left foot injury and missed 17 games after playing in the first 11 matchups. Smart has played in nine games since returning on Dec. 26 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Smart is averaging 14.5 points, 2.1 steals and 4.3 assists for the Grizzlies.
This is the second major guard injury for the Grizzlies this week. The team recently announced that star point guard Ja Morant is out for the season due to a labral tear in his right shoulder.
