Here's who Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway is pursuing in the transfer portal
Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway will lean on the transfer portal again to compose the bulk of his 2024-25 roster.
The Tigers have been major players in the transfer market the past two seasons, which has generated mixed results. In 2022, Hardaway signed six Division I transfers — a group headlined by All-American point guard Kendric Davis — and won the AAC tournament championship. Last offseason, Memphis brought in nine transfers (and three true freshmen) and missed the NCAA tournament.
Hardaway and Co. could have seven or more scholarships to fill before the 2024-25 season begins. In February, forward Nicholas Jourdain said he planned to return for a second season. Freshmen Ashton Hardaway and Carl Cherenfant also could be back. Leading scorer David Jones, who has one season of eligibility remaining, is expected to test the NBA draft waters but has not ruled out a return to Memphis.
The regular signing period opens April 17 and runs through May 15 (but players are still eligible to sign after that). There are more than 1,000 names in the transfer portal, with more being added every day. The last day a player can enter and still be eligible for the 2024-25 season is May 1, but players do not have to commit (and sign) by that date.
Here is a list of prospective transfers who have been linked to Hardaway and the Tigers (by The Commercial Appeal and national reports) and where things stand. Check back regularly for updates throughout the offseason.
