Marquette’s Oso Ighodaro heads home to Phoenix after getting drafted in second round
Oso Ighodaro hopes he has found the right NBA team for the Marquette big man's unique skill-set, and it is in his hometown.
The Phoenix Suns landed Ighodaro after acquiring the No. 40 pick after several reported trades in the second round of the NBA draft Thursday.
Ighodaro, who attended Desert Vista High School in the Phoenix area, was in the green room at ESPN's Seaport Studios. The first round was held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
After four years at MU, Ighodaro is seen as an intriguing draft prospect. He averaged 13.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season, but NBA teams loved his ball-handling and passing at 6-foot-10.
Scouts are also concerned about Ighodaro's shooting ability, but his athletic ability and defensive versatility were enough to compel the Suns to take a chance on him.
Ighodaro will play alongside Suns superstars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Ighodaro will play for former Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer, who was hired by the Suns in May.
